From Fan to Founder: Building a Company With My Idol

That's the reality for today's narrator. What started as admiration and fan girling for years turned into an opportunity to build a company alongside one of her biggest idols. A year and a half later, she's still helping build something she's deeply proud of while working her dream job.
Today, she shares how she got there, the lessons she learned along the way, and why your dream career might be one email away.

How did you get into this dream position?!
Author: I got into this industry with no connections, pure drive, and a lot of risk taking. But the common denominator of my story was that I asked for help – i put myself out there, i told people what i wanted, and i kept asking for help. I got my first job at a record label with no prior connections by asking for help, I left that job (a story for another time) and built my own book of business by working with people i had previous relationships with, asking for their trust, and their money, and i got my dream gig by literally emailing the email in the instagram bio of this company, telling them my resume and why i’d be a good fit for the position. That cold email turned into a job interview, that turned into a paid 3-month contract, thaat turned into a full time job that supports me financially, gives me the freedom to work from home, travel, and build a company alongside namesakes that have inspired me for as long as i can remember. To be trusted confidents of the founder i love so much is the greatest gift in the entire world. I want to make her proud, and I show up every day to do it.

What 3 lessons do you want to share with readers?

1. Closed mouths don’t get fed!!! Put yourself out there, ask for help, ask for what you want. The worst thing that could happen is them saying no. the best thing that could happen is them saying yes, and your life changing positively.
2. Not knowing the answer is better than faking an answer. There’s something really powerful about saying you don’t know something, but would like to learn. Asking for help, or putting your guard down helps you learn, and this business is always changing, and theres always something to learn. Admitting that doesn’t make you weak, it gives you an edge and an upper hand.
3. Don’t compare your journey to someone else's, even mine! This story doesn’t include the time i left my first job at a record label, how i waited tables while i built my business, and how i moved backin with my parents at 27 years old. Nothing is linear, and “flashy” jobs are usually a lot of smoke in mirrors.

Author: The idol in this story was describing me to a group of people we were in a meeting with and she called me “inspirational”!! ME?! YOU’RE THE BIGGEST INSPIRATION EVER!!!! Girl, put that on my gravestone!!
